Global Models
A global model by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts. Considered the best for precipitation and cloudiness. Resolution — 9 km. Updates 4 times a day, providing forecasts for 10 days.
The US Global Forecast System, originally created for aviation. Updated 4 times a day, providing forecasts for 10 days.
While the GFS27 interpolates data for every dot within a 27 km x 27 km square, the GFS+ always shows only the maximum result in each square. Updates 4 times a day, forecasting for 10 days.
A global model by Deutscher Wetterdienst (German Meteorological Service). For Europe, higher resolution (7 km) is available for the ICON model, making it even more precise than the ECMWF. The ICON with a 13 km resolution is the global version available worldwide.

A regional weather model by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the US. HRRR is High Resolution Rapid Refresh. It provides a great forecast for the continental US based on the radars' data — the unique advantage of HRRR. Resolution is 3 km (1.9 mi). Updates every hour, providing forecasts for 36 hours.
A new-generation regional weather model by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the US. RRFS is Rapid Refresh Forecast System. It covers not only the continental US but also Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Resolution is 3 km (1.9 mi). Updates every hour, providing forecasts for 84 hours.
A local model developed by the Meteorological Service of Canada. Covers Canada and part of North America. Thanks to its high resolution, it takes into account complex terrain and reproduces breezes and local winds. Resolution — 2.5 km. It is updated every 6 hours and provides forecasts for the next 48 hours.
European Models
A regional European version of the ICON model by Deutscher Wetterdienst (German Meteorological Service). Good for planning several days ahead in areas without a better local model. Resolution — 7 km. Updates every 6 hours, providing forecasts for 5 days.
A high-resolution regional model for Italy and the surrounding seas, including the Adriatic. Based on the ICON model by Deutscher Wetterdienst (German Meteorological Service). Great for sailing and for coastal and open-water winds in the Mediterranean. Resolution — 2.2 km. Updates every 12 hours, providing forecasts for 72 hours.
A local model developed by Meteo France (French meteorological service). Covers France and some adjacent regions. Resolution — 1.25 km. It is updated 5 times a day and provides forecasts for the next 42 hours.
A local model developed by Deutscher Wetterdienst (German Meteorological Service). Covers Germany and some adjacent regions of Central Europe. Thanks to its high resolution, it takes into account the terrain: foehns, valley breezes, and coastal winds. Resolution — 2.2 km. It is updated every 3 hours and provides forecasts for the next 27 hours.
A local model developed by the Met Office (UK National Meteorological Service). Covers the UK, Ireland, and parts of Western Europe. Detailed enough to show breezes and local circulations in the wind forecast. Resolution — 2 km. It is updated every 3 hours and provides forecasts for the next 54 hours.
